I think in a year deytsch two’s time, there won’t be any difference in visual or rendering power of Unity vs any other engine like crytek. There are far better development solutions to help bring worlds to life in ways that wouldn’t help fuel the notion that it was amateur hour on the independent landscape. By your opinion what is the “one” most important thing that Unity team should make to be more usefull in getting the job done?

QFSSep 29, Unity has alot of support, and alot of investors. The good thing about CE3 is that it is so moddable. And I suspect we will see this advancement of post shaders in the not too uttorial future, because as I exaplained, this really isn’t that big of a deal, it’s just a matter of them implemented the technology that’s already been published.

You can even change the entire game code and scripts without any “hacks”. How can you create an AssetBundle? And another thing is you can dump this out in the usual CE3 mesh format “CGF” and read it back in later. Now, I wanna check out cry engine.
This isn’t to dismiss your post, as it was a very good summation of the current state of the engines, and I do agree with it. I mean, srsly, Shadowgun looks just as good as most UDK projects you see in their forums, and it’s for mobile, ffs. Improve your Unity skills with a certified instructor in a private, interactive classroom. This is pretty slick, and couldn’t be done efficiently in Unity I suppose due to lack of shader support. If you don’t master Unity, you have no chance with even simple things in CE3, I promise you I am personally a big computer graphics nerd and understand very in-depthly all the ways that cryengine is vastly superior in the rendering department to Unity, or really anything else.

At least that was the CE3 terrain tutorial I have been watching! You just can’t work with that.

Aug 11, Posts: Forget it with Unity! Or would that be very hard? It sounds like the free version of CE doesn’t allow this. Then they wanted to become the predominant package for 3D mobile game development, and I think they nailed that.

No chance with Unity! With destructive environments, modding as an integral concept, and a lot more. It’s got quite the head start on Unity. Builtin dynamic batching doesn’t work for anything but mobile. Even if you can workaround some of the many issues that will arise, you won’t get any decent look due to lack of global illumination and in fact much morewhich is only provided by the static Beast Lightmapping.
